
The Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) has announced a ceasefire following a message from its imprisoned leader, Abdullah Ocalan, stating that it will refrain from any military actions unless provoked. The group has also set the release of Ocalan as a prerequisite for convening a congress aimed at dissolving itself.In a statement released by media outlets associated with the PKK, the group characterized Ocalan’s message, delivered on February 27, 2025, as a “historic manifesto” that offers a “clear roadmap for all advocates of freedom and democracy.” The statement underscored the importance of implementing the core principles outlined in the message and called on all parties to take their responsibilities seriously.
The PKK reiterated its dedication to fulfilling the essence of Abdullah Ocalan appeal, stating, “We are fully committed to the core message and will strive to ceasefire . However, for this process to be successful, democratic political conditions and legal frameworks need to be established.”Additionally, the Party expressed its willingness to organize a congress but emphasized a crucial condition: “We are prepared to convene a congress, but for this initiative to come to fruition, suitable conditions must be created. The success of the congress can only be assured if Abdullah Ocalan is at the helm.”
Abdullah Ocalan message for PKK
On Thursday, February 27, the İmrali delegation held a press conference after meeting with Abdullah Ocalan in his prison on İmrali Island, during which they publicly read his statement in both Kurdish and Turkish.Ahmet Turk, the ousted mayor of Mardin, presented Ocalan’s message, emphasizing that the PKK was formed at a time when the road to democracy was blocked. He stressed that “peace and democracy should take priority now.”Ocalan’s message called for the complete disarmament and dissolution of the PKK, asserting that “The PKK must lay down its arms, convene a congress, and dissolve itself.” He also took personal responsibility for ensuring the success of this process, pledging to facilitate peace negotiations.
