A tragedy heatwave in Mecca claimed the lives of seven Kurdish pilgrims during the Hajj pilgrimage. Officials confirmed that the victims were found unresponsive in their tents.The Kurdistan Regional Government reported that six pilgrims died in the past 24 hours, while another passed away on Monday, bringing the total to seven.
In one incident, a father and his son were together when the son experienced a health issue that led to him losing consciousness. When he regained consciousness, he discovered that his 84-year-old father was missing.
Despite seeking help from authorities, his father has not been located.In another tragic case, a family of three suffered from heatstroke, causing all of them to lose consciousness., one person passed away, and another family member is currently missing. It has been reported that nearly 4,600 pilgrims, registered by Kurdish authorities, have participated in this year’s Hajj pilgrimage.
Hajj is an obligatory Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca, the holiest city for Muslims in Saudi Arabia. It is a religious duty that all physically and financially able adult Muslims must fulfill at least once in their lifetime. It involves journeying to Mecca and ensuring the well-being of their family while they are away from home.
Karwan Stuni, spokesperson for the General Directorate of Hajj and Umrah said that the Kurdish pilgrims who traveled by land will return according to a special schedule.
According to Karwan Stuni, several Kurdish pilgrims who traveled to Mecca on one-year visas to perform the obligatory Hajj have been missing since Saturday.
