Herro Mustafa Garg, a Kurdish woman from Erbil, was appointed as the New US Ambassador to Egypt. The U.S. Embassy in Cairo made an official announcement on Thursday, confirming that Herro Mustafa, a Kurdish-American, has taken the constitutional oath and assumed the role of the new ambassador.
The embassy emphasized that Ambassador Mustafa’s appointment comes at a crucial period in the U.S.-Egypt strategic relationship. Her presence is to bolster the cooperative endeavors aimed at fostering stability, security, and prosperity in the region.
In March 2023, U.S. President Joe Biden officially announced the appointment of diplomat Herro Mustafa as the U.S. Ambassador to Egypt, as confirmed by a statement from the White House. Mustafa, who hails from Erbil in the capital of Kurdistan, is 50 years old and holds a bachelor’s degree from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service, as well as a master’s degree from Princeton University.
Also, She is fluent in eight languages, including English, Kurdish, Arabic, Persian, Greek, and Hindi. The documentary “American Herro” showcases the remarkable life story of Herro Mustafa, shedding light on her family’s journey from Iraq. Herro’s significant contributions have earned her recognition by the Carnegie Foundation in 2021 as one of the most influential immigrants in the United States. Her husband, Ravindra Jarg, an American of Indian origin, and together they have two daughters. Ariana, who is 9 years old, and her younger sister Ashna, who is two years younger.
The Kurdish woman previously served as the US Ambassador to Bulgaria, also held positions as Deputy Chief of Mission in Portugal, Counselor for Political Affairs in New Delhi, and worked in the office of the Vice President of the United States on Middle East and South and Central Asia affairs.
