
World leaders conveyed their wishes for a new year brimming with hope and freedom as Kurds commemorate Newroz on March 21 each year. Newroz , meaning “new day” in Kurdish, signifies the start of the new year in the Kurdish calendar.U.S. President Donald Trump stated, “On behalf of the United States of America, I extend my heartfelt congratulations on this holiday… Happy Neworz.” Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed, “I hope your Newroz will be a triumphant one.”
The U.S. Embassy in Damascus extended its congratulations to the Kurdish community in Syria yesterday in celebration of Newroz , hoping for a year filled with peace, prosperity, and good health. They shared an image of the Newroz flame alongside the greeting “Happy Newroz” on their Facebook and X accounts, along with messages in Kurdish, Arabic, and English.
The message from the U.S. Embassy stated: “On the occasion of Newroz, we extend our warmest wishes to the Syrian Kurds and everyone observing this holiday. Just as Kawa ignited the first flame of Nowruz to signal the dawn of a new day, we hope that the new year will be illuminated by hope and the promises of spring. Wishing you a year rich in peace, prosperity, and health.
Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid also offered his congratulations for Nowruz in a statement, saying: “On this occasion of Newroz we extend our heartfelt congratulations to our Kurdish citizens and all segments of the Iraqi population, hoping that this cherished occasion returns to our people with goodness, blessings, and prosperity. May joy and happiness flourish across the nation.” He further remarked, “The lighting of the Newroz flame represents heroism, sacrifice, struggle, and the triumph of truth over falsehood.”
Among world leader, UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan extended his congratulations to all those celebrating Newroz worldwide, expressing wishes for happiness, peace, and progress for everyone. In a post on the platform “X,” he stated: “Sincere congratulations to all the peoples celebrating Newroz around the globe, wishing them and all individuals worldwide happiness, peace, and development.”
