U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris accepted the Democratic presidential nomination at the party’s national convention on Thursday, promising a “new way forward” as she gets ready to run against former President Donald Trump in November.”On behalf of everyone whose story can only be told in the greatest nation on earth, I accept your nomination to be president of the United States,” Kamala Harris said to the crowd in Chicago, Illinois.
“I will be a president who brings us together around our highest goals,” she stated. Kamala Harris became the Democratic candidate after President Joe Biden dropped out of the race.At 59, Harris will run for president in November with her running mate, Tim Walz, aiming to be the first woman president in U.S. history.
The U.S. Vice President also promised to be a “president for all Americans” and criticized Trump’s campaign.”We know what a second Trump term would be like. It’s outlined in ‘Project 2025,’ created by his top advisors, which aims to take our country back to the past,” she said, referring to the Republican plan for the future.Originally, the U.S. presidential election was expected to be between President Biden and former President Trump.
However, Biden withdrew from the race in July and endorsed Harris as the Democratic candidate. After Biden’s announcement, many Democratic donors, officials, and former presidents backed Harris to challenge Trump, who accepted the Republican nomination shortly after surviving an assassination attempt in July. While Harris was speaking, Trump reacted to her comments in real-time on Truth Social.
“She’s done nothing for three and a half years except talk, and that’s what she’s doing tonight—complaining about everything but taking action!” Trump said.He also claimed that Harris has led the U.S. into “failing nation status.”The United States will hold its 2024 election on November 5, and the next presidential inauguration is set for January 20, 2025.
