Tragedy Strikes as fash floods claim Lives of hikers in Kurdistan In a heartbreaking incident, four hikers associated with the Sagrma Mountaineering Organization met a tragic end during flash floods in the picturesque Masuran valley near Zard mountain.
Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani expressed his condolences for the death of the hikers in a post on X, calling on people to be cautious as the bad weather could cause similar incidents.
Rescue teams swiftly mobilized and were able to locate the bodies of the four hikers, which have been subsequently sent for forensic medical examination. Aram Ali, the spokesperson for the Sulaimani Civil Defense, affirmed the discovery of the four bodies in the Qaradagh district.
According to Ali, the hikers group initially comprised twelve individuals, unfortunately resulting in four drownings. The remaining five hikers, however, are luckily in good health. Rauf Kamal, the governor of Qaradagh district, shared the distressing news that several hikers, who had journeyed from Sulaimani to Awaspi village in Sewsenan sub-district, fell victim to the flash flooding.
Governor Kamal also highlighted that the ill-fated group had ventured into the region without notifying the relevant authorities, ultimately being caught off guard by a powerful rainstorm.Our hearts go out to all those affected by this devastating event, and we stand in solidarity with the families and friends of the hikers who lost their lives in pursuit of their passion for nature and exploration.
